The Aurelio B16A is a testament to Filipino innovation in the automotive industry, marking the country’s foray into the realm of supercars. Introduced in the mid-2010s, the Aurelio was developed by Factor Aurelio Automobile, a collaboration between engineering student Kevin Factor and entrepreneur Brendan Aurelio. Their vision was to create a high-performance vehicle that could stand alongside renowned international supercars.
Design and Exterior
The Aurelio’s design draws inspiration from iconic supercars, resulting in a sleek and aggressive aesthetic. The front fascia features sharp lines and squinting headlights reminiscent of McLaren models, while the rear showcases elements inspired by Lamborghini, particularly with its scissor-lift doors. The body is constructed using a combination of fiberglass-reinforced plastic (FRP) and carbon fiber, ensuring both durability and reduced weight. Approximately 80% of the vehicle’s components are sourced locally within the Philippines, highlighting the country’s manufacturing capabilities.
Performance and Specifications
Under the hood, the Aurelio offers two engine configurations:
-
Honda B16A DOHC VTEC 16-valve Engine: This engine is known for its reliability and performance, commonly found in various Honda models.
-
Mitsubishi 4G63T 2.0L Turbocharged Engine: A turbocharged powerplant capable of delivering up to 457 horsepower, enabling the Aurelio to reach top speeds of approximately 290 km/h (180 mph) and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under 10 seconds.
Chassis and Suspension
The Aurelio features a handmade chassis complemented by a VR4 front and rear suspension system, ensuring optimal handling and ride comfort. It rides on 18-inch Rota alloy wheels, further enhancing its sporty stance.
Interior and Features
While specific details about the interior remain limited, it’s known that the cabin incorporates carbon fiber and FRP materials, emphasizing a lightweight and performance-oriented design. The scissor doors not only add to the vehicle’s aesthetic appeal but also provide practical access to the cockpit.
Pricing and Availability
At its inception, the Aurelio was priced at approximately PHP 1.6 million (around $30,000 USD). However, production numbers were limited, with the manufacturer indicating the capability to produce only six to ten units annually.
As of 2023, there have been no significant updates regarding new models or continued production of the Aurelio.
